
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has been summoned once again by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to join the investigation on Tuesday (March 29) in the alleged coal smuggling case, sources have told India Today TV. He was last questioned by the financial probe agency in Delhi on March 20 for nearly eight hours.
Abhishek Banerjee, according to sources in the ED, has been asked to appear to clarify certain aspects of the investigation.
On Monday, after his eight-hour questioning, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew accused the Centre and the BJP of misusing investigative agencies to target the opposition.
“We won’t bow before the people in power. I will only bow before the people of this country,” Abhishek Banerjee had told reporters outside the ED’s office on Monday.
“In Bengal, we won and it’s difficult for the BJP to digest it. If you (BJP) want to fight, fight us politically, electorally. But they are using the CBI and the ED to win elections. You won’t see ED raids in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura or in states where they are in power. But you will see ED raids in Bengal and Maharashtra,” Abhishek Banerjee had then said.
Banerjee also slammed Home Minister Amit Shah when asked about his involvement in the alleged coal smuggling case. “They call it a coal smuggling scam and a cattle smuggling scam.
