A Scottish woman who was conned in an international cryptocurrency scam has announced she is spearheading a class action lawsuit to recover money for victims.

Jen McAdam, who is to be played by Kate Winslet in a new Hollywood movie, lost around £9000 to the OneCoin Ponzi scheme which has defrauded up to £4billion from people around the world.

She also persuaded family and friends to put in around £220,000, before realising they were not going to get the cash back.

The 51-year-old, from Glasgow, is now encouraging others to join the ‘OneCoin Victim Support Law and Asset Recovery Lawsuit’ which was launched this month.

McAdam has instructed lawyers and an asset recovery firm to investigate the Onecoin scheme and try to recoup money.

She said: “I will be sharing Zoom meeting details in the New Year for all OneCoin Victim Group members who are interested to join the OneCoin Victim Law and Asset Recovery Lawsuit.”

The scheme’s founder Dr Ruja Ignatova has vanished and is facing money laundering charges.

The rights to McAdam’s book about her experience, called Fake!, were snapped up last year by film studio MGM with Oscar winner Winslet set to portray her.

McAdam, who will work on the film as an executive producer, has told of her delight that her story will be coming to the big screen.
