Thiruvananthapuram: Online fraudsters are now gradually shifting to new methods asking for OTPs. The latest trick that has been reported is making the victims download apps that can enable screen sharing, bank officials said.
The fraudsters call people in the guise of bank employees. They ask the customers to download an app that enables screen sharing. With this, the fraudsters can access all the information on the person’s phone.
While ‘OTP frauds’ have decreased, police said many have lost money in a cheating spree in the name of the electricity board. Several victims lost lakhs of rupees.
Banks would never ask for personal details or ask to install any apps other than the official apps. Check with your branch if you have any doubts, banks authorities said.
