On February 5, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya was allegedly attacked by Shiv Sena workers at the entrance of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for allegedly refusing to accept a letter from them. Somaiya fell on the steps during the attack. The police put him in a car but the Sena workers allegedly attacked the car too. Somaiya sustained injuries in his wrist and back.
Somaiya had filed a complaint at the city’s Shivaji Nagar police station, alleging a scam at the Jumbo Covid Centre set up by PMC and managed by a private institute. The institute’s head is considered to be close to the Shiv Sena. The BJP is in power in the PMC. Somaiya had gone to meet PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar to discuss the alleged scam where he was confronted by Sena workers.
A statement issued by Dr Parag Sancheti, chairman of Sancheti Hospital in Shivaji Nagar, stated that Somaiya was in severe pain and shock when brought in for treatment. “An evaluation of his X-ray scans showed no fractures in the wrists, hands or back. He had severe contusion of his wrist and tail bone.”
Upon discharge the next day, Somaiya met Vikram Kumar. “Got discharged from Sancheti Hospital, Pune. Went to Pune Municipal Corporation, submitted complaints against Sanjay Raut Family Partner Sujeet Patker Lifeline Hospital Management Services for COVID Centres Scams.
