SUPPORTERS of a local cancer charity are being warned about criminals attempting to cruelly con people out of their money.
A whole host of con artists using fake profiles have been leaving posts on social media posts from both Ardgowan Hospice and the Telegraph insinuating they have tickets for sale for the charity’s upcoming Line of Duty benefit evening in Port Glasgow with the stars of the show.
It is completely sold-out, but fraudsters are trying to exploit that by claiming they have tickets for resale.
The shameless scammers are trying to get people to make payments to them via Paypal and have gone as far as sending mistake-riddled ‘confirmation emails’ in an attempt to convince people they have tickets in their possession for the event with Martin Compston and his co-stars on March 19.
As well as giving the incorrect location and information, the blundering con artists have used the date of the hospice ball – which is earlier in the month – on their ‘confirmation’ emails.
Ardgowan Hospice’s Linda Kelly has issued an urgent warning about the fraudsters – and says only those who arrive with the original ticket purchaser will gain entry on the night.
Linda told the Tele: “We are very disappointed that people are attempting to scam people out of their money.
“We want to ensure that those who have bought tickets gain entry, so we have robust processes in place as we would not like to see anyone miss out or be defrauded.
