A local resident in the Barfield Community recently fell victim to a scam involving a “Coinbase” money transfer that totaled close to $1,300. The money was taken from the victims personal checking account, which many realize is a devastating withdraw – especially when you factor in monthly bills being deducted that include everything from mortgage payments to utility bills.

Evidently, the money was withdrawn from the victims checking account because someone stole the numbers on the front and back of his check card.

Thankfully, the victims bank cleared up the issue, but the money was not refunded until the following month.

Dr. Anne Anderson, finance professor at MTSU, said that keeping up with your bank statement is extremely important. However, many young adults don’t think about their bank statement in this technologically advanced world…

Anderson is the Weatherford Chair of Finance in the Jones College of Business and hopes to change the way young adults manage their income.

The local professor told WGNS that MTSU will celebrate Financial Literacy Week in April and the university plans to have several guest speakers on campus April 4th through April 8th. Best of all, the upcoming seminars are free and open to the public.

Guest speakers will discuss everything from financial planning to crafting your financial success in business.
