1. Get a Bag (or Two) of El Rey’s Lemon Nacho Tortilla Chips

If you know, you know. And if you don’t know, allow me to change your chips and salsa game, forever. Milwaukee is blessed with an amazing neighborhood Hispanic grocer: El Rey. The local shops have been serving up authentic dishes and grocery options since 1978. Their entire prepared food section is amazing, but I have to put my golden sticker of approval on one very specific item. Get the lemon nacho tortilla chips, along with some of their prepared salsas (I love the verde) or guacamole. Try to get a bag that has extra seasoning, you know, like that perfect Dorrito you were bagging about. You’re welcome. 

2. Check out the Indian Cuisine at Tandoor Restaurant

I was recently asked my favorite restaurant, and boy, that’s a doozy of a question. I chose to simplify the query by thinking about it in terms of what restaurant I go to the most. And that yielded a surprising answer: Tandoor, a little mom-and-pop Indian place on Highway 100 in West Allis (1117 S. 108th St.). It checks the boxes for what my wife and I want out of Indian cuisine: me, a great spicy tikka masala; her, a great saag paneer; both of us, a soft, fluffy naan spiked with garlic. We discovered it when we lived in west Tosa but have stuck with our favorite even after moving to the other side of town; for us, it’s worth the drive.
