The Better Business Bureau warns East Texans about a recent scam involving what may seem to be a harmless Facebook quiz.

TYLER, Texas — The internet is a powerful source which some utilize as a tool, but it is also used as a fun distraction for others. Social media plays a major role in today’s society, so taking a Facebook quiz may seem like a harmless way to pass the time.

However, are you giving away more information than you think?

The Better Business Bureau warns East Texans about a recent scam involving what may seem to be a harmless Facebook quiz.

A fun quiz pops up on your Facebook feed or another social media platform. You are asked to answer a few questions to prove how well you know a friend, so out of curiosity, you follow through.

Or you are offered a short personality test to match with a character from a favorite TV show.

These quizzes appear to be meaningless, but the intent behind them is to collect information. For example, questions like:  “What was the first car you owned?” “What is your mother’s maiden name?” or “What is the name of the street you grew up on?”
