With a rise in crime locally and seniors being disproportionately affected by increasing online and phone scams, Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza was welcomed to a Christian Women’s Connection luncheon on Monday to talk about staying safe despite these issues.
The organization holds luncheons at the Church of the Nazarene in Centralia on the second Monday of every month. There is always an informational speaker and an inspirational speaker. Snaza’s lunch presentation was originally scheduled for January, but was postponed when the church was affected by flooding shortly after the New Year.
According to Christian Women’s Connection Chair Kay Mills, the mostly-senior guests of the monthly lunch were looking forward to Snaza’s presentation due to its relevance to their lives, so he was rescheduled to Monday.
“He connects well with the women,” Mills said after Monday’s luncheon. “The ladies felt like he was really personable.”
Fifty-four guests turned out for the lunch where 15 minutes were dedicated to Snaza’s presentation.
“One of the things I was asked to talk about is safety. We live in a society today where we have to ask ourselves, ‘If I go to the store, when I come out, is somebody going to follow me? What’s going to happen?’ And I want to give you guys a little bit of insight into some of the things that we’ve seen that can be prevented,” Snaza…
