U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is alerting Iowa consumers to possible scams in the wake of the unprecedented tornadoes and storms of December 15th.

The National Weather Service confirmed some 45 tornadoes across the state that day were spawned by the “serial derecho” that caused widespread damages and destruction. Grassley advises those looking to hire someone to help with repairs and other recovery construction projects to watch for price-gouging.

At least seven tornadoes were confirmed in north Iowa, including the EF1 twister that struck Rudd. Grassley says he’s let authorities know he’s available to help.

Grassley added that, “As a watchdog for good government and taxpayers, I know it’s important for Iowans to be vigilant for fraudsters who take advantage of a bad situation at the expense of disaster victims.”
