LEWISTON – On Tuesday, February 22, 2022 the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a scam that occurred involving an elderly person. The victim said they received a call by a man that identified himself as David, who claimed he worked for Merchants Security Services, which is a service used by the victim for a couple of years. The victim said the company used to be called Merchant Destiny’s Natural LLC.
“David” reportedly told the victim that there was activity on her computer and that he was going to download a trial security system. The victim then provided “David” access to the computer, and told her he would send her a refund for the security software she previously had on her computer. The victim was also instructed to not turn her computer on until the following Saturday. David deposited 3,000 dollars instead of 300 into her account. When the victim offered to write a check to refund the extra money back, David refused and insisted that she use a prepaid Visa debit card. The victim’s bank account was then cleared of about $1,936 dollars.
While doing further research on the company, the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office found that there are numerous Destiny’s Natural companies, but none that deal with internet security.
