SAN RAMON, CA — The San Ramon Police Department is warning the community against scam calls impersonating their number.
The department said that it has received multiple reports Wednesday from San Ramon residents who received a call from their main number (925-973-2700.) The caller claims to be an officer with the SRPD, and tells the resident either that they have not responded to a subpoena or that there is a warrant for their arrest.
The caller also claims that there is a fine that must be paid immediately to avoid jail time. Similar scams, with callers often claiming to be members of the IRS or FBI who can stop an impending arrest through a few hundred dollars, are widespread.
