The Regina Police Service would like to make the public aware of a recent scam that has recently been reported to police in the Queen City.

Police say this scam typically involves a phone call from someone claiming to be an employee from the victim’s banking institution who calls warning their credit card has been compromised.

The scam artist alleges there have been a number of several unauthorized transactions on the victim’s credit card and their identity has been shared.

The scammer will then try and recruit the victim by getting them to “help catch the international criminals”.

The scam artist then asks the victim to purchase gift cards and cryptocurrency. No financial institution will ask residents to make a payment with gift cards or cryptocurrency.

If you’ve been a victim of this type of scam, police say contact your financial institution and report it to police.
