SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a potential scam.

Authorities say scammers are using the sheriff office’s information as well as the name and number of 10th Circuit Court Chief Judge Darnell Jackson to entice people into sending them money.

The scammers are claiming that Jackson has issued a bench warrant for the victim and that they need to supply gift cards to avoid going to jail.

The sheriff’s office says scammers are requiring that the victims read the numbers off the gift card before mailing them, then they steal the full amount.

The sheriff’s office and Saginaw County’s courts say they never will request any payment in the form of gift cards. Anyone who questions whether a call from authorities is legitimate should call their local police or 911 to verify.
