
Pensacola, Fla. — Outside of busy shipping seasons, the invention of package tracking has all but erased the days of stressing over not knowing when a package is going to arrive. Now, tracking a package’s movements is as easy as checking your email or clicking a link in a text message on your smartphone. However, a shipping store in Pensacola, FL is urging their community members to be wary of emails that look as if they are coming directly from USPS but are actually from scammers.
A large number of people in the U.S. are currently waiting for at-home COVID tests to be delivered to their front doors. Sadly, this anxiety is being preyed upon by scammers who send emails to people waiting on these deliveries. These emails look incredibly similar to official tracking emails from the USPS that state that there has been a delivery issue. Scammers are then able to direct unsuspecting individuals to an alternate site that asks people to simply enter their credit card information to cover a few dollars of extra shipping costs to fix the issue.
Pack and Ship Center Warrington wants to remind members of their community that all costs involved with the ordering and shipping of at-home COVID tests via the USPS are completely covered by the government. Therefore, if an individual receives any sort of communication via email or text requesting money to cover any part of the costs of the tests, then it is, in fact, a scam.
