PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — The Pennington County Board of Commissioners is warning the public about a new property tax scam that is circulating the area.

The new scam has fake collection letters being sent from Tax Assessment Securities, Seizure Unit B-. The letters are marked as “Time Sensitive Tax Information Enclosed,” and Pennington County officials urge people not to call the number or respond to the letter.

The county does not work with any Federal Taxing Authorities in the collection of unpaid property taxes.

If property owners need to verify their tax amount, they can do so by visiting the Pennington County website, or they can call the Treasurer’s Office at 605-394-2163.

The first half property tax payments are due by the close of business on April 29, 2022.

If you receive one of these letters or feel you may be the target of a tax fraud, you are urged to please contact the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Protection at 605-773-4400.
