NORTHRIDGE, CA — International Revenue Service scam calls are on the rise with the new tax season, so Northridge residents should be careful giving out personal information, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, Devonshire Community Station.
Residents should be cautious of scam callers posed as IRS agents asking for personal information and money. The IRS will never ask for immediate payment over the phone but rather mail a bill to taxpayers, according to the IRS. The IRS would never immediately threaten to involve law enforcement over a lack of payment.
Other signs an IRS call is a scam include demanding payment with no time to ask questions or make an appeal.
