mukarram: The groom goes missing

There is more trouble for director of Injaz Builders Misbah Mukarram who was arrested in a Ponzi scheme case in 2019 where he is accused of swindled Rs 90 crore from his investors in the name of ‘halal’ investments. A 30-year-old woman has filed a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust against Mukarram after he allegedly swindled around Rs 50 lakh from her promising to get married to her.

In her complaint to the Whitefield police, the woman, a private company employee, says she knew Mukarram since 2016 after she had separated from her first husband. According to her, Mukarram had told her he was going to marry her. “If a Muslim male marries a divorcee, a widow or a woman who is below poverty line, he would go to heaven and he said he was going to marry me because of that,” she told Bangalore Mirror.

At the time, Mukkarram was accused in this Ponzi scam. The CCB police had arrested him in June 2019. Mukarram went to jail and got bail and was fighting all the cases at the court.

The woman said she stood by him through these troubles and spent lakhs of rupees for his bail and to return to people who were threatening his family. Mukarram is said to have told her he would meet her parents in Davangere. In 2021, he met her parents and asked for her hand in marriage. They were engaged in March and the wedding was planned for July 1.
