Feb. 18 at Trailside Senior Center
On Friday, Feb. 18 from noon-1 p.m., Senior Services Midland offers a “Lunchtime Learners” session called “Protect Yourself from Scams” at the Trailside Senior Center at 4700 Dublin.
Officer Brennon Warren from the Midland Police Department will share information about the types of scams that target older adults. These types of scams are on the rise, and with tax season coming up, there will be even more. You can protect yourself by knowing what to look out for and how to handle a scam that is targeting you.
Warren will share examples of common scams, how to recognize a scammer, and how to avoid being a victim. One of the most effective ways to avoid a scam is to TALK TO OTHERS about your experience before taking any action requested by the callers. Scams are almost always introduced with an insistence on secrecy and urgency. Remember that anyone who restricts you from discussion with others has something to hide.
Senior Services requests that all unvaccinated people remain masked when in their facilities. While masks are not mandated for fully vaccinated individuals, the CDC and Midland County Health Department recommend that masks be worn indoors in public areas regardless of vaccination status.
