Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Idaho Power is warning customers of a new scam designed to take your money.
The scam will typically be over the phone and will ask for payment via gift cards or prepaid debit cards.
While it may look like the call is coming from Idaho Power, officials say it’s always best to hang up and dial the customer service number found in the phone book or online to verify if the call actually came from Idaho Power.
“One of the more recent scam tactics we’ve seen cropping up lately seems to be targeting senior citizens quite a bit,” said Idaho Power Spokesperson Brad Bowlin. “They are offering a ‘discount’ on your power bill or offering to set up some kind of reduced payment as long as you provide credit card information up-front.”
Bowlin also says that Idaho Power will never demand payment over the phone, and tells consumers that it’s a good idea to set up an online account with Idaho Power to receive live updates on your account.
