The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Pravin Raut, who is one of the Directors of a sister concern company of HDIL (Housing Development Infrastructure Limited) named Guruashish Constructions. The arrest was made in connection with a 1,034 crore Patra chawl land scam case.
Raut’s name had earlier come up during the investigation in the PMC bank scam case investigations in December 2020. Raut’s wife Madhuri had given an interest-free Rs 55 lakh loan to Shivsena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife in 2010. The money was used to purchase a flat in Dadar, Mumbai. The source of funds was being investigated by the ED then.
Raut, along with promoters of HDIL Sarang and Rakesh Wadhawan were Directors of Guruashish constructions. In 2018, the Mumbai police EOW (Economic Offences Wing) registered a case against Wadhawans and others for cheating MHADA authorities and dwellers of Patra Chawl.
Guruashish Constructions had signed a contract with MHADA to redevelop a land parcel where Patra Chawl was located in Goregaon.
Meanwhile, Guruashish construction had to construct over 3000 flats, of which around 672 had to go to Patra chawl residents, while the rest of MHADA and Guruashish construction would get to develop the remaining land. The company did not develop the land parcel and sold it illegally to several other private builders for over Rs 1,034 crores, cheating MHADA authority and Patra Chawl residents.
