The Enforcement Directorate announced on Tuesday it had attached properties of Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut in connection with a land scam case.
The Indian Express reported the Enforcement Directorate “provisionally attached eight land parcels in Alibaug and one flat in Dadar in Mumbai” belonging to Raut and his relatives. Raut tweeted “Asatyameva Jayate”, a pun on the Sanskrit phrase Satyameva Jayate (truth always triumphs) when news of the ED action broke.
The scam relates to irregularities in redevelopment in Patra Chawl area in Goregaon. ED alleges the developers sold floor space in the area without building mandatory tenements for people living in Patra Chawl. In February, a businessman, Pravin Raut, was arrested in connection with the case. He had been a director with a company associated with the redevelopment of Patra Chawl.
Enforcement Directorate said Pravin Raut’s wife had given an interest-free loan of Rs 55 lakh to Varsha Raut, the wife of Sanjay Raut, in 2010-2011. According to reports, this money was used to buy an apartment in Dadar.
