Detective Mullish explained: “This is a dreadful crime in which fraudsters specifically target older and vulnerable people, by exploiting their trust.
“Courier fraud can have devastating consequences on victims, both financially and emotionally, which is why we’re asking the public to remain vigilant and follow some simple steps to help protect themselves and their loved ones.
“Remember, just because someone claims to know a few basic details about you, such as your name and your address, it does not mean they are genuine.”
In response to the growing crime issue, Action Fraud released advice as to how people, specifically pensioners, can protect themselves from courtier fraud.
