The credit card summary arrives and we find consumptions that we have not made: tickets to recitals in Buenos Aires, train tickets in Europe and cell phone accessories paid in dollars, for example. It can also happen that when checking our bank account we find withdrawals that we did not make. Finding out that we have been scammed, that we are too vulnerable in the virtual world, is a strong blow.

It happens more and more to Tucumans. In the last two years computer crimes have multiplied. The famous story of the uncle and identity theft were installed in cyberspace along with computer programs to steal financial information and sell it.

Although these crimes have existed for some time, they were exacerbated when life mutated into a virtual mode. The pandemic has left more fertile ground for online scams. José Farhat, Secretary of Citizen Participation of the Province, said that 2020 and 2021 were the years with the most cyberattacks: there was identity theft, phishing, data kidnapping and all kinds of computer fraud.

“Of 100% of cybercrimes reported in the last five years, more than 69% were committed in 2020 and 2021. This has a logic: in the context of the pandemic, most of us have been forced to migrate to a modality remote to study, work and connect with others. And also to organize our financial life. This has caused criminals to turn to the virtual world as well,” he explained.
