A KIDDERMINSTER pensioner has spoken of her horror after she nearly fell victim to £3000 scam.

Valerie Bond, who lives in the Hoo Brook area, was contacted by a scammer impersonating a police officer last month.

The 70-year-old said the caller, who provided a fake officer name and badge number, wanted her to withdraw thousands of pounds to help with an investigation.

She told The Shuttle: “It was a very scary experience. It left me very shaken.

“The thing was that the scariest thing about it is I was totally convinced by them.”

Mrs Bond was contacted on her landline, with the scammer knowing her name. She said the caller claimed that her credit card had been used in Tesco Express.

She added: “They wanted me to withdraw £3000 which I haven’t got anyway. They wanted me to do it that day.”

She said she then called her partner Phil on her mobile whilst she was still on the landline phone to the scammer.

“I got hold of him by mobile and I put it on speaker phone, she said

“As soon as the crooks were saying whatever it was, Phil shouted out “no, no, no stop,” and as soon as he said that the phone went dead.

“After that I fell apart.

“If it hadn’t been for my partner intervening via my mobile phone, I would have been financially very much worse off.”

Previously, officers in Kidderminster issued an urgent warning about incidents of courier fraud in the area.
