BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As tax season gears up, so do tax scams.
The Better Business Bureau says true to yearly tradition, financial fraud scammers are already at work as April draws closer.
The BBB says you should watch out for fake IRS websites.
They also say scammers troll on Facebook, offering you government grant money, provided you pay them first.
These impersonators can not only scam you out of money, but many “phish” for your personal financial information.
BBB Director of Strategic Marketing Whitney Adkins said, “Some of these websites that are trying to mirror or make themselves look like the IRS website, they’re going to do a good job. So, you just want to be careful. So, let’s just all be a little bit diligent and protect our personal information.”
The BBB says to avoid these kind of scams go to IRS.gov directly for any questions or forms. Don’t rely on any links to take you there. You can also hire a professional accountant to handle your finances.
