Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has spent the last several years attacking this problem, as have a number of other states’ attorneys general and the federal government itself. It’s a plague on our society that is costing Americans millions of dollars per year and it doesn’t look like it will come to an end any time soon.

We are talking, of course, of phone and emails scams of which there are myriad types, all of which are designed to lift money out of your wallet. Everybody has been getting calls or emails about extended warranties on their cars and has pretty much accepted those as something of a national joke. But warranty swindles are just one of many of the truckload of successful phone scams/email scams that reach all four corners of the United States and beyond.

The simple reason that phone scams/email scams continue is because they work. For all the publicity and warnings that have been issued about phone scams and email rackets, criminals continue to rake it in by taking advantage of those who are unlucky enough to answer the phone calls from Nogales, NM then follow directions.

Let’s say a scammer is trying to get into your bank account info because a Nigerian prince is going to deposit in your account $15 million in it to “hold” money in order for the prince move some of his millions out of the country, out of which you will get a sizable cut. Laugh you may, but it worked very well at first and continues to work to this very day.
