EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Police Department is spreading the word about a scam going around the community in which a scammer pretends to be with the City of Eugene.

Police said a man from another part of the state got a call from the scammer, with the caller ID coming up as the City of Eugene. The person on the other end of the line tried to get the man’s credit card information.

These kind of scam calls typically use an automated system, but occasionally they come from an actual person attempting to scare the target, police added.

You can find a list of scams on the Eugene Police Department’s website HERE.

Police remind you to follow your instincts and never feel embarrassed about making sure you know who’s really on the other end of the line. Always reach out to the represented agency directly using a published contact phone number.

Report any scams to www.ic3.gov. If you suffer a loss through a scam, police ask that you contact the non-emergency line at 541-682-5111.
