A resident living in the 900 block of Dale Court, S.E., told Vienna police that on Sept. 14 last year he received an online notification that his computer had a virus.
The notification listed a phone number to call for assistance, and the resident spoke to a representative, whom he allowed remote access to his computer. The representative then advised the resident to mail a check for the services rendered.
The resident now is receiving correspondence stating that the company never received the check and requesting he send them more money, Vienna police said.
