Ludhiana: Probe into the scam by a gang of fraudsters duping people on the pretext of providing easy loans has found that the absconding kingpin was initially an auto rickshaw driver. He drove the auto rickshaw for years and later became a travel agent and duped many people of lakhs of rupees. About six months ago the main accused along with his accomplices had formed a gang and duped approximately Rs 3 crore from the people by luring them with the easy loans with lower interest rates.
The cyber cell of Ludhiana police commissionerate has arrested two accused in this matter. They have been identified as Ankit Kumar Kashyap of Model Town and Sunil Chopra of Janta Nagar. The kingpin of the gang, identified as Gagandeep, is still absconding. The police recovered Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, 20 mobile phones and 33 debit cards from the accused. The cops also said that the accused had deposited Rs 8 lakh in their bank accounts that had been seized by the cops.
An official, investigating the case, said, “During investigation, the police got the name of the kingpin of the gang Gagandeep. The arrested accused Sunil Chopra and Gagandeep hail from Delhi. During questioning, Sunil revealed that Gagandeep had come to Ludhiana about nine years ago. He drove an auto rickshaw in Ludhiana for many years to earn a living. About three years ago Gagandeep started working as a travel agent and he duped people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad.”
